HELLO AND WELCOME!

Hello and welcome! My name is Annecy Baez, and I am a trauma-informed, focusing-oriented schema therapist, educator, and writer.  For the past thirty years, I have provided therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. My work is grounded in trauma-informed healing-oriented, body-centered, and anti-oppressive practices.  I integrate focusing mindfulness, and creative arts,  particularly bibliotherapy/poetry therapy, visual journaling, dream work and SoulCollage.

I care deeply about my clients and their well-being, and I will support you by providing psychotherapy services suited to your present needs. It is my hope that our work together will support you. I welcome you here and look forward to meeting you.  I am booked for this year, I have created a resource list for you, and I will be providing psychoeducational Bibliotherapy workshops. Please check offerings.

MINDFUL MOMENT

Annecy Baez, Ph.D.

"As you read these words, be present with whatever comes. Take a deep breath and listen deeply and then, ask yourself, “How am I doing, right now?” and breath, in and out, and then ask yourself, “What needs my attention?”  again, breathe, and allow whatever comes up to come. It can be a word, an image, or a memory, a thought, or a body sensation. Keep it company with curiosity.  Being present, aware, and listening deeply is at the core of Mindful Practice."

SERVICES

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

I am a focusing-oriented psychotherapist and certified schema therapist who offers short-term and longer-term psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. I draw upon various psychological approaches according to the problem presented and my assessment of what may best benefit you.  Sometimes more than one approach can be helpful in dealing with a certain situation.

I provide Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy, Schema Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy depending on your needs. I provide Emotion Education workshops informed by AEDP. If needed, I may integrate CBT, ACT, or DBT  skills.  I also integrate creative/expressive arts in the form of  bibliotherapy/poetry therapy, visual art  journaling, SoulCollage, and expressive dreamwork

FAMILY & COUPLES COUNSELING

I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) culturally sensitive trauma-informed family and couples therapist.  For the past thirty years, I have provided therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. I have been trained and I teach couples and family therapy.  I draw from the  Bowen Family Systems perspective. This perspective helps families work together, it looks at the issues as multigenerational, lowers anxiety and emotional turmoil, and promotes greater understanding and calm reflection. A life long learner, I am trained in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, but I am also informed by Imago Relationship Therapy and Gottman Model.

As I am committed to preparing young BIPOC couples for marriage. I am certified in Prepare-Enrich and use the Prepare-Enrich online inventory (40-60 min) in English and Spanish. A Prepare-Enrich program is a useful tool for premarital, cohabitating, and married couples to identify areas of strength.

I provide psychoeducational classes on understanding your family history and creating genograms to increase knowledge about family patterns and dynamics and increase understanding.

To learn more please this article by Jenny Brown, "How our family of origin affects us AND how we affect each family member"

I highly recommend the following readings, Sue Johnson’s “Hold Me Tight”, and John Gottman’s   Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. As well as, Dr. Hendrix Getting The Love You Want - A Guide For Couples. Most recently, I read Richard Schwartz You Are The One You've Been Waiting For: Bringing Courageous Love To Intimate Relationships. Dr. Schwarts is the developer of Internal Family Systems (IFS)

CREATIVE/ EXPRESSIVE ARTS

I integrate creative arts in my psychotherapy practice as a creative method to cope with life challenges and support your growth and healing. Creative/Expressive arts therapies used vary depending on your needs, but they include therapeutic and visual arts journaling and  Bibliotherapy/Poetry therapy, a therapeutic modality that involves the reading of poetry, stories, and books with the purpose of growth and healing.  I also provide clinical Bibliotherapy, the use of therapy books for therapeutic support, see events.

HOW I WORK

Journaling Questions

I am very aware of time.  Not everyone calling for psychotherapy services is interested in long-term psychological change of life patterns, for this reason, I offer single-session consultation or a mini commitment of 4-6 sessions or extended therapy sessions of 12 to more sessions. If more is needed, we review goals and recontract for a number of sessions with a future review.

Here are some steps and questions to guide you as to the quality of the work we will be doing. Even if you never call me, I hope these questions open up space to begin the process of self care and attention to what needs to be attended to.  You may want to find a notebook or journal and write the answers to these questions, this is a self reflective practice very similar to what I would ask of you during our work together. In our first session,  I want to know who you are and what you need, what you hope from coming to see me. Here are some questions I ask throughout our work starting with the first session.

Step 1: Making Contact – Ask yourself:

Who am I and Where am I right now?

I am a visiting or do I want to stay longer?

What commitment am I willing to make?

Step 2: Creating a commitment

What do you require of me professionally?

What do I ask of you as a client?

Are you willing?  Are you ready?

Step 3: What are your hopes?

What do you hope to gain?

What was your previous experience with therapy and counseling?

What do you fear?

How will you stop yourself from getting what you want?

Step 4: Telling “the story”

What brought you here now?

Where have you been?

How was it for you then?

Step 5: The theme of your life

What keeps happening again and again?

If there is a life pattern, how was it learnt?

What do you need to re-learn?

So, what work is needed now?

Are you willing? Are you ready?

Step 6: Reviewing the commitment: What’s Next?

Shall we continue?

What are the alternative?

Have  the goals  changed?

How shall we work together now?

To schedule a free phone consultation please call me at 914-920-2393.  After scheduling the phone session, and if you agree to work with me, you will receive an invitation to register to my secure client portal to complete all forms and schedule future appointments.
