EMOTION EDUCATION
I came to Accelerated experiential-dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP) during training on Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy. It seemed like everyone I met at the Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy training was also trained in AEDP and also Internal Family Systems (IFS). AEDP is a healing-oriented modality that focuses on what is right with you, it looks at the glimmer of hope within you even when it feels gloomy inside. This innovative method was developed by Dr. Diana Fosha. I was fascinated by AEDP an integrative form of psychotherapy that focuses on healing-oriented techniques. it is attachment-focused, emotion-focused, experiential, creative, relational, somatic, and body-centered, as well as very positive. The goal of AEDP is to help you develop the skills needed to address the painful emotions of traumas rather than resort to defensive strategies.A few years later, I discovered the Change Triangle which incorporates AEDP and IFS. I teach all of my clients Hilary Jacobs Hendel, Change Triangle, as noted in her book, It's Not Always Depression. It is amazing how after a few sessions of emotion education, clients are able to understand their emotions better, and pause rather than react. I trained with Hilary Jacobs Hendel to teach Emotion Education 101, a 12-hour emotion-focused psychoeducational curriculum which has been developed by Dr. Jacobs Hendel.
